Welcome

Haku!

The Oakbrook Park and Chumash Interpretive Center not only offers insight and education into the native Chumash Indian life in California, but also an opportunity to explore and appreciate the trails, mountains and wildlife of the magnificent oak groves and hills of this undiscovered jewel of Thousand Oaks. Just click on any of the links on the right side of this page for more information about our museum, special exhibits or events, nature walks, school programs, gift shop and other offerings.

School and Group Education Programs

We offer a 3-hour program customizable for elementary, middle and high school students. We also host college and university level classes as well as adult organizations eager to learn more about Chumash history and culture and our park and museum's offerings. Senior citizen tours, garden clubs, photography groups and naturalists have been finding our setting perfect for their meetings and our docents full of helpful information. For more information, please click on the Education Program link on the right side of this page.

Tomol_presentation_2For those looking for something a little shorter, we also have a 2-hour docent-guided nature hike and smaller museum tours complete with crafts and lectures.  The museum staff has also recently started to offer short classes and lectures for all ages at the museum and in our park. Be sure to check the Education Programs link (at right) and the Special Events page regularly for updates.

Guided Nature Hikes

NEXT SCHEDULED HIKE: Saturday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. - Call or e-mail to confirm your spot.

We offer a guided tour of the park that includes sites such as the "Little Sapw'i" village, game fields, mortar stones, star rock and the cave with pictographs. Your guide will entertain and enlighten you with their knowledge of Chumash culture, significance of our park, while pointing out interesting sites, flora and fauna during the tour. And they'll even throw in some Native American storytelling to top it all off. This isn't your usual nature hike - be sure to check it out. Tours are usually held on weekends and last approximately 2  hours, although weekday trips can be scheduled by reservation. For more detailed information, click on the Nature Hike page link on the right side of this page.
